My response to: Gurus on twitter-Get A Freakin' Clue by Jack Bastide.

I tried to post this comment on Jack Bastide's blog, located here: http://www.tweeterblog.com/twitter-etiquette/gurus-on-twitter-get-a-freakin-clue/

I should never read your tweets before I'm supposed to be taking a break. You always find a way to suck me back in, Jack.
I do follow some people who may never follow me back. Some are celebrities, some are gurus, some are just people that seem interesting to me.

I don't really get mad when people don't follow me back. I do get ticked off when people unfollow me for no apparent reason, especially after they've already gotten such good information from me.

I follow people even when I disagree with them (hmm, I wonder who I could be referring, too?). To me it's all about the interaction. That is the bottom line. Otherwise, we could all just go back to the Web 1.0 days where all you had to do was have a website and an email address.

Moral of this story: Find a way to interact with the people you follow and the ones who follow you. You'll be considered rude if you don't and you may even lose some followers.

Thank you Veterans!

To all of the veterans that may get the opportunity to read this blog, I want to say thank you very much. One of my grandfathers was a veteran of a war (I forget which one). He's long gone now, but I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank the men and women that risk their lives fighting in wars that they didn't decide to start. Keep up the good work!

How to get your blog on your LinkedIn profile.

As a follow up to the other post I wrote on this subject, here's how to add your blog to your LinkedIn profile. These instructions are for wordpress blogs. I do know that this application works only for wordpress blogs and typepad blogs.

1. Log in to LinkedIn

2. Click on the Applications link

3. Click on the wordpress icon

4. Then it's going to ask you for your url or rss feed.

5. Put that information in and you're good to go.

I hope this helps.

Here's an easy way to get other tweeps to twit your blog posts.

I saw this on another tweep's blog and I thought how cool. I did some digging on google and found the tool. In order for this to work on activerain blogs, you can just go to http://www.twitthis.com and install the bookmarklet to your browser. Then you can easily tweet your blog.

Use TweetBeep To Follow The Real Estate Market

I am becoming addicted to twitter. It's just too useful of an application. I know I've mentioned that you can use twitter to follow people in your niche. You can also use twitter to follow your niche. There's this cool little website called: http://www.tweetbeep.com that allows you to set up alerts when certain terms are used on twitter. It works kind of like google alerts. I have tweetbeep set to alert me whenever someone mentions the words real estate and virtual assistant. This allows me to beat my competitors to potential clients because as soon as they are thinking about using a virtual assistant I can introduce myself to them and mention that I am a virtual assistant. This has already led to one inquiry about my service. We'll see what happens.

My two cents on the gas shortage in Atlanta

I honestly feel like as citizens, we can do more to help the gas shortage here. We can start by only driving if it's absolutely necessary (i.e to get to work, the doctor, etc.). When at all possible, please, please, please car pool or use Public Transit. It's much less expensive to use public transit than it is to try to drive anyway.

If you must drive, you can use twitter to find out which gas stations have gas before you leave the house. According to this blog, http://www.buzzbrockway.com/?p=365, you can use the tag #atlgas to find out which stations have gas. Just go to http://search.twitter.com and type in #atlgas and then you will see all of the information related to the gas shortage.

The most important thing I can say is please be patient. My husband actually saw a scuffle break out at one of the gas stations on Memorial Drive yesterday which resulted in a man getting arrested. Please, please, please keep your cool. I know driving in Atlanta is tough enough without this added difficulty, but it will pass (eventually). I just wanted to mention this cool use of social networking technology.
