OT-Diversity Issues: What happens to people that don’t want to be labeled?
Yes this post is off topic. It’s off topic because it is not about coaching or social media or video marketing. However, when I saw this woman’s article, I felt compelled to respond here. I saw this article “I Don’t Want To Be A Diversity Candidate”, written by an Indian female. After I stopped laughing and read the article, I just didn’t get it. So what if the reason someone gives me money is because of my gender or race? Does that money spend any less than money that was given to me based on “merit”? I never saw a bank go “I’m sorry we can’t take your deposit because you got it due to your gender.” Maybe I just don’t have as big a chip on my shoulder as some people do, but I’ve come to the conclusion that women and minorities are just going to get treated differently. Period. Now who am I to turn down an opportunity just because it came because of some wish to fill some “quota”? Quite honestly if I do take on such an opportunity it will allow me to help those that were not fortunate enough to get the opportunity. If I turn it down I can help no one. I have to look at my big picture, which is to help other business owners grow their business. If I have more money then I can help more people. Simple as that. I think it is irresponsible to turn down legitimate funding opportunities. Okay rant over. What do you think?
